The photos below are from a collection of items that Joyce Mullen purchased from me. Some of these items are in the style of the early stages in developing the stretching technique that I use in my "pumpkin" series and art pottery.
There are 4 casseroles of significance because they are definite examples of the transition from our production blue flower pottery into the art pottery that we do now. I was using the materials I had at the time that we used for the production or utilitarion wares and began creating one of a kind sculptural pieces.
The Black Panther was a resident of the NC Mtns and it is debatable as to whether they are still around.
The Bear here is pouncing on a salmon with melted glass under his belly to simulate water.
The Elephant , in the NC zoo, lives in red mud....hence its color here...
The Cicada is relevant to an attack we had in 1995, it was amazing.
The Mermaid, asleep after stuffing herself with lobster and oysters, is the first.
These photos do not do justice and please ask for any stories behind the piece.
Enjoy, and anything you may desire is available for the asking. Contact Joyce, she has been a good friend and enthusiastic supporter of my work.
